Post subject: Yerf is definitely dead. |
|

Unfortunately, the SINGLE hard drive containing all of Yerf's art and scripts totalled the data in it. The admin's got the terrible news, "No data recoverable".
http://www.livejournal.com/community/yerf/55386.html
However, it seems that there's enough momentum to make a newer Yerf. No more weird Python programming, time to change to PHP. And, of course, I think it would be a good chance to review some of the policies that made the site lose its popularity through the years.
Anyway, if I lose my older, "grandfathered" account on it, I don't think I'll re-apply. Back in 1998-99, there was almost no choice to Yerf, but, nowadays, there are at least a dozen of galleries where I can host my stuff without feeling like a VW bug parked between Rolls-Royces. :)
We'll see what happens now. |

In a way, I wish Yerf would just.. stay dead. I mean, yeah, there was some awesomely good art on there.. However they WERE mostly a bunch of eletist (sp?) pigs. I used to be friends with a few artists that recently got accepted to YERF, and needless to say, it inflated their ego so much that I thought they had been taking the same crack that Zer does.
And, needless to say, their application pieces were the only really good ones in their gallery. :/ |

*sigh*
Well, hindsight is 20/20. Still, you'd think that the thought of backing the data up on occassion would have crossed Dingo's mind prior to this.
If anything, it gives Yerf a chance to start anew. The donations should be more than sufficient to start Yerf back up on the right foot again and this time with some safety measures like mirrors or other backups. Looking back, Yerf losing of all the art (including the really frickin' old art) is somewhat sad, but a good thing as well. I know when I get back on, I have no intention of posting my really old art. Perhaps the clean sweep coupled with a policy change or two will make Yerf a better place to view and post art.
Here's to the new Yerf. May it be better than the old one. Salud! *drinks a Coke* |

Yerf is no more... It's bleeding demised... It's a stiff... Bereft of life, it rests in piece... It has rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible... It has shuffled from this mortal coil and gone to meet it's maker... In short, this is an ex-Yerf!
Dear God, somebody shoot me! |

Yerf, the only furry art archive that didn't make me want to puke my innards out.
Well, two fingers in the throat and BLÖRF. |

Ironic that VCL is pretty much bomb-proof, whereas the 'quality' site went down easy like a toothless $10 whore for a vial of crack. |

Of course it crashed. VCL has the deep pockets of furry perverts who will donate whatever so they can see more furry tits and cocks. Then, the quality site that actually cares about anthropomorphics, not pornography, has no suck financial backers.
This shit pisses me off. I liked yerf. |

Not to mention VCL has several mirror sites. Hell, it probably has mirrors on other planets.
People will pretty much go to great lengths for porn over art. Art is subjective. People may or may not pay the asking price for it. Porn, on the other hand..... you know someone will pay what you ask for it.... and the more specific it is to someone's fetishes, the more they're willing to pay for it. It ain't so much furries.. it's just good ol' tits and ass. |

Yerf, minus the "better than thou" attitudes. I could respect. It wasn't about 'omg 12 inch hawt fox cawk' and 'omg boobs'.
VCL on the other hand, is a toilet that needs to be flushed, but they just keep putting shit in it. |

Ever find it curious that the main VCL database is in Sweden, one of the few nations on earth where fucking a dog is legal? |

Quite frankly I've encountered worse "better than thou" attitudes amoung some of the spooge meisters, at least Yerf had a legit claim to quality rather than some porn artist who draws like a 5 year old and thinks they're the next x-rated picasso. |

If the make a new site, I just hope they come up with a better name. I never did like the sound of "Yerf", though there aren't many words that start with Y that would make a good name.
Hmm, the lost of some really old stuff, but wasn't posting much to it anymore anyway, due to some of the reasons expressed by others previously. |

Yes, it is true that Sweden does not have any law prohibiting dogfucking. It is generally thought that that form of atrocity falls under the general cathegory of "animal abuse". Last year there were some legislators that to propose anti-animalfucking laws, but the swedish media simply treated them as kooks. The fallout from that proposal was in fact picked up by the Wall Street Journal, who ran very small feature headlined "Swedish perverts love their dogs!" |

There was a thread(s) on here a while back about how the state of Florida doesn't have any bestiality laws. It came up in a few cases where some perpetrators (who did it fairly publically) couldn't be charged with anything other than lewd behavior or something.
I think that 40 year old 'zoophile' guy who was attacked in the shower with a crowbar by his 70+ year old father for constantly, openly, boinking the dog was also from Florida. I might be misremembering the state tho. |

Anyone have any statistics on furries in the USA by state? Any guesses why so many are in FL? Come on, take a guess. |

Well the ColoFurs simply brings to mind all sorts of things all revolving around fiber in one's diet.
Oddly, or not depending on how you see it, they congregate in places with lots of Hyoomans as opposed to those north midwest states on the Canadian border where there's so many cute and fuzzy animals and easy access to the socialist utopia of our northern neighbor. Go figure. |

Considering the abundance of organized Florida furry groups, I'd either assume there were a lot down there, or the few just can't get along well enough to maintain a cohesive organization. And all I got is fucking 'Viva Furry Vegas'?
See, Internet access in those rural counties of America is rather sorely lacking. Coupled with a general lack of fast food outlets and con meets, and the general poor condition of the rural job market, most furries tend instead to live out their nature fantasies over the 'Net rather than take up the inconvenience of actually living in nature. |

In other words, furries concentrate where the icky hy00mans are because that's where all of the conveniences are. I almost have to wonder why there aren't more in St. Louis, where we have more fast food restaurants per capita than most places in the U.S. It's really insane... you can find Taco Bells within two blocks of each other. And that doesn't count the McDonalds in between them.
Likewise, more hy00mans means a bigger concentration of any kind of retard in general. Looking at that furbase map, I wonder if we registered a ton of bogus accounts in the middle of the freaking outback if they'd all flock there.
Speaking of St. Louis, I found the Arch Area Furs. Looking at their Mardi Gras stuff (I can't bring myself to type what they call it), you have to love the list of rules that would apply to pretty much everyone at Mardi Gras followed by:
18.) And despite the tyrannical rules, have fun!!
Yah.. mundanes are evil and tyrannical for suggesting you can't streak wearing nothing but a wolf head or sucking wolf head in public.
And I'm afraid to ask what "technicolor howling" is. :? |

There are a lot of furries down here, and they all go to the anime/sci-fi/fantasy conventions that are popular in Tampa and Orlando. So do I, and everytime I go I make sure to heckle them in that classic "innocent question" manner. "Oh really? I heard there was this one guy that draws lovingly rendered wolf anuses. Is that true?" They stay patient with me but I can tell I make them uncomfortable when I hit the nail on the head on all their "inside" information, in public.
I'm fighting the good fight, my fellows. |
