Over the Hdge. I remember reading about this movie on the Yerf forums when it was first annouced. Back then I believe Jim Carrey was slated for the voice of the raccoon. I guess they gave the part to Bruce Willis instead. Not bad because I like Bruce Willis better anyway.

In case any of you are wondering, it's a movie addaptation of the daily comic of the same name. Lord knows if it will do justice to fans of the comic or if the movie will be any good. Gotta hand it to Dreamworks for constantly reaping more and more celebrity voices for their animations and further pushing traditional animation out of existance.

Looks dumb. The comic was okay and had a few good ones, but I stopped reading it after several months.

I rather liked the comic, though I stopped reading it years ago. Sorta not bad at all, but not that good either. The trailer is more along the lines of not exactly disastrous, but it doesn't look like the film's worth watching.

Oh, c'mon... everything has porn made out of it. It's what the internet is for.

This movie looks pretty kickass among its genre. I don't personally like it, but I can see this movie being very popular. Also, the furries will cling to this and mass produce pr0n of it. :?

Pixar still dominates in terms of quality. This movie like it has OK design and animation, but Shark Tale was one of the goddamned ugliest pictures I've ever seen-- just garish and unattractive in every way.

Pixar also has better screenwriters. This looks more  than funny.

I don't know if I can, because I don't know alot about it other than it's in cooperation with the Wallace and Gromit people, but rather than being clay, it's CGI that LOOKS like clay.

This is guaranteed to suck. It's a "me too" knockoff of Garfield. Kind of like how Gladiator had a wake of crappy historical war movies, and Spider-man has all these crappy superhero movies following it up.

And unfortunately, the wrong message is going to get sent to movie execs, because the furries are going to single-handedly carry the movie by going to see it 15 times.

It probably won't turn out to be good or bad. It'll be... forgettable. Like Valiant. Anyone remember Valiant? Or Madagascar? They're still in theaters and I'd forgotten their names.

It isn't much furrier than Madagascar, and there's an absolute dearth of furry Madagascar porn and fandom. Truth is I think even the furries (as a whole, ignoring the sicker fucks) can realize when something is below their respect - NIMH and Lion King have been raped to hell, but that movie and this movie aren't even remotely interesting to anyone over age 12. Brother Bear has its fans in the lifestyler wank community, but Over The Hedge doesn't look like it'll provide anything to masturbate to. Really - Wanda Sykes as a skunk? Shatner as whatever he was?

I dare say it's too dull for all but the most hardcore furry.

Actually, there's a small Madagascar thread on Fchan.
Not that you wanted to know that, or anything.

Kiddies will dig it, I suppose. But kiddies dig all kinds of useless crap with the right kind of marketing, and if there's something Dreamcast does right, that's marketing their stuff like it's the new pokemon wave or something like that.

I just can't take that skunk as anything but a thinly veiled tip 'o' the hat to the skunkies in Furry, notice how they tend to enjoy spraying everyone down with vile filth? Shameless.

And that skunk is... Wanda Sykes. If you've seen Wanda Does It... that isn't a furry. It's Wanda Sykes. That's what she does for a living. Sprays everyone down with vile filth. Wow.

Really?

Can he get me a job?

I have a BA in illustration from the American Academy of Art in Chicago and a Certificate in Traditional Art Mediums from an Animation School in Toronto, Canada.

I am willing to move to LA. In fact, that's one of my long-term goals.

Good luck, but if CC brings it up to her dad, that would be an interesting conversation.

Hey a stranger internet friend was wondering if you'd look over their resume. I met them on a board where we traumatize each other with shitting dicknipple macro skunkhermtaurs and talk about how bad your movies suck.

Exactly! How could he refuse?

And nowhere did I suggest that this movie would suck. My "Oh, dear..." comment was an expression of concern that this film, be it successful or otherwise, would provide yet more ammunition for the spooge-cannon.

Actually, I never meant to imply that you suggested it, more of others' talk of Madagascar. However, if she mentions the spooge cannon bit, that might improve your chances. SCORE!

Kidding aside, best of luck.

Nah, unfortunatley, he can't currently get ANYONE a job...he's barely hanging by a thread onto his own. They're getting rid of alot of the older artists, who know more about 2-D than CGI to make room for the young kids who were raised on computers...sorry...but I wish you good luck!

And this is why there are so few good animated movies now.

Studios will go for novelty over quality.

I don't really care though, it's the children that will be affected.

Sad. It's my dream job to work as a modeling TD at Pixar, so I'm into the whole CGI thing, but 2D is generally, in my opinion, a better medium for cartoons than 3D.

I'm praying i'll be able to get a job in cartoon animation when i graduate cuz there is a surprising amount of jobs out there (plus the warner bros animators are going to all be retiring/dying soon :D ). I'm shooting for 3d though cuz that's where the industry is. Disney and there low budget scripts ruined 2d for the world, nobody has faith in it anymore.

But it's true that 2d is a more effective medium for cartoons. Basically anything 3d does could theoretically be duplicated in 2d, it would just take an insane amount of time and an impossible budget. Not the same could be said for 3d though. Could you imagine trying to animate Krisfalusi like off model animation like ren and stimpy in 3d? It would look terrible.

This movie sounds quite a bit like Madagascar in reverse -- a bunch of animals from the wild discover what life is like in the human world, as opposed to the other way around. There's originality for you. Then again, I guess it more or less echoes the comic strip.

As a cartoonist I think it's cool that there's a theatrical film being made that's based on a comic strip. First time that's ever happened, I think. Not only that, according to the strip's website, the script was written by the cartoonists themselves!

Oh, and random fact: in the comic strip, at least, the turtle has a younger nephew named "Plushie." I shudder to think...

There was also a successful series of movies based on the comic strip "Blondie"made in the late 1930s to the 50s.

http://www.geocities.com/blondieseries/

And then there was a "Dennis the Menace" movie in 1993.
http://www.movie-pages.com/movie/dennis-the-menace/B00007G1Z9/
And a sequel in 1998.

Looking back at this thread, I can't help but picture some furry comics making the leap to the big screen...
Imagine:
BETTER DAYS: THE MOVIE
Starring Anne Coulter as Fisk's mom, and Bill O' Reilly as Fisk!
or
KIT N' KAY BOODLE: THE FAMILY REUNION
Starring the Snapple Lady as Poodlemom!

As a form of self-torture, yeah, sure! :D

I love 'nam war movies... The Better Days movie better have some sweet action to compensate for the right wing nuttery. Other than that, I'd hate to see what would happen to the voice actors of Kit'n Kay. Their careers in professional film would most likely be over the same second that mud hit the screens.

They made it forgettable on purpose, just like every other deliberately bland bit of Garfield paraphernalia. It's quite awe-inspiring, the quiet success of manufactured mass-market appeal at work.

I think my IQ just dropped by a few dozen points.

Well, then you'd be the perfect audience for this movie.

Nah, you cast Bill wrong. He's better of as that tweaked Vietnam vet who had the huge paragraph of text.

So I saw the websites trailer for the movie, and now I believe TWO things will happen.

 It will draw in possibly a big group of furs.

 In its wake more furries will be created.

Depending on how it does, we can expect to see a ripple effect after it premiers. I don't think we can expect a following similar to Star wars or Lord of the Rings but thats for the audience to decide.

Movies still have to be good for this to happen. This is not the Lion King, I doubt much will come of it.

You're right about it not being the Lion King, it just looked from my perspective that it had the potential to be a 3D version. Sure, seems like they're not the same; maybe furries won't find 3 dimensions of cartoon animals interesting and forget about it.

As for what Captain Cowgirl said about the movie reaction on FChan, here are some direct quotes:

>> Thu Oct 13 13:50:37 2005 No.21889
where are all the cocks?

Porn plz.

And this one:
>> Wed Oct 12 19:16:33 2005 No.21826
bump cause the hedge crew is yiffy!

I tell ya, this Hedge movie is powder keg ready to blow.

I doubt it. Everything gets pornofied, but it's still a relatively small phenomenon. Normal people will go and see this film, and not think a single thought of furries or copulating animals. And I agree with RailFoxen; this is just too bland-looking to truly appeal to any great number of furries.

Well ok, then majority rules on this so I'll go along with that. Maybe its far from being the "next big thing".

Aside from the furry thing, why oh why do Dreamworks now sell ANIMATED films (ie, all methods of production are concealed) with the voice actors and actresses?
It completely contradicts the aesthetic of the film, although I will admit that dreamworks character design tends to consist of taking the loosely defined permanent traits of the voice actor and badly "photoshopping" it onto a CG model.
I can hear the timing and spacing of the dialogue in my head right now, adn I already fucking hate it.
