I'm really not hearing these people who think that just just because two consenting adult gays are given the same rights as everyone else there's going to be zoophilial or pedophilial marriages just around the corner.

The argument, as it goes, is that permitting marriage between anyone other than the tradition man/woman couple sets the precedent for all manner of nontraditional marriages being legalized, such as marrying children or animals.

Of course there's one obvious flaw in such reasoning; I'm not sure if the gay marriage opponents are just overlooking the detail about animals and children not being considered consenting adults, or if they're trying to imply that gays aren't really people. Equal chance of both, methinks.

When people don't want to deal with an issue, they respond well to 'slippery slope' arguments. That's not changing the fact that I don't think the movie was about gay marriage, and that not all gay rights issues boil down to marriage, and that the gays fucked themselves over considering the marriage deal...

The movie Brokeback Mountain is actually a very nice movie that really has gotten more controversy than it really should have. It's almost a shame but an expected thing that someone made such a satire of it.

As for gay marraige in general, its something that probably also has a lot more controversy than it really should have. And I swear everytime I hear the term "slippery slope" I think of those old plastic slip-n-slides because as a kid my sister and I would put ours on a hill pointing down with the water going down it...which made for a much faster ride.(and much harder impact at the bottom we learned)

Guh.
No matter how good something may be, someone, somewhere will parody it/make porn of it.
