Hmm. Very interesting. Who knows how the internet will evolve in the next decade or so? Also: Isn't the idea of being tracked and documented online kind of scary?
One thing's for sure, there'll still be spam emails for penis enlargement pills. |

If they could write a 'filter dumbass' algorithm, the world would be a better place.
I honestly can't see amazon and google merging. Perhaps google offering a similar service, though. |

This is facinating and all, but doesn't this all seem a little presumptuous? I mean, predicting that Google and Amazon will merge is one thing, but claiming the exact day when The New York Times will sue Googlezon is a bit off. Believe me, I'm all for Google creating an file hosting service and I'd most likely be first in line to sign up, but to expect every one of the predictions in this to take place is a little much for me.
Although in the future, science will find a way to attach fox tails to human spinal chords, give man that extra set of ears he always wanted, and create living symbiotic vixen fursuits. |

..HEY ANYONE WANNA KNOW THE SECRET TO DISNEY/ROBOTECH/TGIF'S COOKIE RECIPEEEEE?

I don't know 'Live', so I can't say - however, if I hear "Tom Sawyer' one more time, I will blow up the republic of Canada. |

ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION. WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL.
Hey, Rankin. Where do you get your radio? KDOT, me, or KZRQ whenever I can stand the latest pop-rock artist that sounds just like the next-latest pop-rock artist. Either way, light on the classic-rock.
Ain't Off Topic the CYD chatroom? (Considering what was the CYD IRC ain't.) |

This video both facinated and scared the hell out of me. The idea of one corporation getting that powerfull is both awe inspiring and terrifying at the same time.
Some of the facts in that video seemed a bit off. They said the www came about in 1989. But wait a second; I've read the internet was indeed arround for a very long time before the www came about. However, before about 1992 or 1993 e-mail and the usenet did indeed exist, but they were mostly text based and accessed via unix shells or telenet type of things. The vast majority of users were on Military bases or at Universities. Back then, it was mostly private and it really wasen't until 92-93 that it started becomming public and the www came about.
I've read that in 1992, there were only 5,000 websites and only 10,000 in 93. 1994 seems to be the year it started taking off as a public thing but even then, I've heard there were less then a million people in the USA with internet access, the www was still a largley fledgeling service, with most people getting access via Universities and Military Bases, and only a handfull of people dialed in from home via what were still relativley new (and fledgeling) ISPs.
I do remember first hearing about high speed options arround 96 or 97. In those years it was still new and only a few select areas had it as testing the service (or just starting to roll it out) and it was still quite expensive. 99 seems to be arround the time the prices started comming down and access to High Speed started appearing in a lot more areas (although, there are still lots of places without it).
Although, I should note that the history of the internet and Word Wide Web seems to change with everyone that tells it. |

But I'll always be a rocker, I'm just that way. I rue the day when everything is formulamatic and for the masses.. oh wait. Marilyn Manson molests and nurtures my hollow black soul. (omg angst)
Here is my real head. |

Nah, not really ... it was definatly a small niche, but I'd say public for sure. There was no WWW, and you could say there wasnt much to do compared to today (then again tho.. maybe not). My dad was on Compuserve in the very early 80s' (I was born in 81). No lie, one of my earliest memories of computers is my dad showing me the thousands of UseNet groups on compuserve, when I was like a toddler.
I remember my family had Q-Link shortly after that (Q-Link was AOL on the Commodore 64 and before it was AOL). I still have, and occasionaly wear the ~20 year old t-shirt they got by cashing in some sort of points for using the service when they canceled it. => |

Tool has such deep lyrics....
"Moms will put it back the way it oughta be!"
Oh, and if you want to say a band sucks over their song titles go find out what the Rammstein song 'Buch Dich' means in English. |

Animal characters are often used to take works of literature that don't feature animal characters, such as Tom Sawyer, and make those stories appealing and accessable to children.
Likewise, furries use animal characters to take works that don't necessarily feature animal characters, like Star Trek, Star Wars (aliens aside), and anything they create to make the stories appealing and accessable to other furries.
So... where does this equation lead us? |
