AP - Sun May 22, 9:29 AM ET Nine-year-old lesser panda Ron Ron stands on his hind legs at Asa Zoological Park in Hiroshima, western Japan, Sunday, May 22, 2005. Ron Ron is the grandfather of two-year-old Futa whose upright standing not trained by keepers at a zoo in Chiba, east of Tokyo, attracts a crowd to the zoo daily after it was first reported nationwide this week. I would not classify it as evolution so much as mere learning. If an animal's capable, the liklihood that it will manage to do it (if interested) is quite high.
My parents' sheltie has taught himself to walk on his hindlegs.. and stand on them for minutes at a time: This doesn't mean he's smarter: is he trying to emulate us by walking on our hindlegs, trying to be taller, or just trying to be damn cute? ;) |

Many animals can and do physically stand upright. Primates, rats, meerkats, bears, just to name a few. Evolution at play would be the musculature of a group of the species changing to stand/walk upright easier, not one individual fluke's behavior. |

The reign of the hyoomans is at an end! Now the small mammals shall rise up!
...
And promptly be crushed under the wheels of highway traffic. |

Why, Rankin, this post almost seems to reveal a side to Rankin that we never knew, a softer, gentler Rankin who has room in his heart for the lovable hi-jinks of cute fuzzy animals! |

No, Meat, I will not let you watch him make doodie.
I've never had a problem with cute fuzzy animals. Just cute fuzzy animals that I'm deathly allergic to, and humans who pretend to be cute fuzzy animals. |

Acquired characteristics aren't passed on through genes. It's not evolution, it's just a funny panda trick. |

It might SEEM like a funny panda trick. All funny panda tricks start with standing. But soon they'll be walking as well. Then going into our stores to buy running shoes. And then all the running shoes in the world will disappear cause they'll be worn by pandas! Then what will we run with!? How will humans win The Olympics?!? We won't, cause the pandas will have the upper hand with their fabulous running shoes!!!
Then they'll be accepted in society because they've won all the gold medals!!! And that's when the pandas will attack!!!! And we won't be able to run quick enough to hide cause all our running shoes will be the property of pandas!!! We'll only be able tto walk or saunter, maybe a light skip at best!!! They'll enslave us all!!! Did you ever think about THAT?!?! NO!! YOU JUST THOUGHT IT WAS A FUNNY PANDA TRICK!! BUT INSTEAD YOU'RE NOW DOING FUNNY HUMAN TRICKS FOR PANDAS!!!
In conclusion...
Get yer stinkin' paws off me you dirty panda!! |

Calm down Charlton Heston; I'm sure you and the NRA will be able to prevent the destruction of the human race.
Just be sure to take any furries out that wish to "contribute" speeding up thier gene pool, m'kay? |

I'll say evolution when I see them at my local bar guffing down a lager and playing pool.
So far I've only seen polar bears.
