Not only do they think they can persuade Oxford, they think they can do it via an ONLINE PETITION..
They never will be taken seriously.

The people that sign this petition are secretly signing themselves up for 'cultural cleansing.'

Didn't we have a thread about this before?

Hmm, how could they have 1800+ signatures ? Maybe this has been up for a long time and random people thought it would just be funny to sign it, thinking it was a prank.

Probably should check the list for any repeat signatures.

Oxford hasn't added a lot of web or computer nerd terms ("Blog"), despite pestering from various authors and whatnot. There is no chance in hell of this entering the Oxford Dictionary anymore than a word from Klingon.

Seriously, furries need to learn to just be a fandom and stop rubbing their shit in everyone else's face already. I wouldn't mind if they were all idiots like Naylor and Gonterman if they were just more shy about shoving it down other's throats.

It was lost when CYD crashed. Had the nationalist furs link and the furry language thing on it too. Anyways, continue.

It's like if the 'Gay Pride' activists threw a pride parade. Every single day of the goddamn year. In every major city. And then posted embarrassing photos of post-parade antics on the internet.

You know what's the best about this?
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=fur
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=furry

No mention of anything anthropomorphic or any fandom or anything of that. Putting the cart before the horse, are they?

It's not in that one, but another definition that I found also listed 'Fur' as the mineral deposits and lining of a pot, kettle, or pipes caused by hard water. But alas, I can't find that usage. I was so hoping to go to a con dressed as an old hot water heater.

I like the word, but it keeps sounding like the name of a small chocolate candy. Put right between the M&Ms and Smarties are bags of Skitterdoodles.

I'm guessing the same hambeast who came up with the term "Murrr" as an anything-that-isn't-a-cat alternative to "Purrr"

Or Pawpaw (Look, verb AND noun)

Isn't there an article on 'furryspeak', and all the stupid words created within the fandumb?

If not, there totally should be.

Well, there's a section in the primer about it. Which notes the verb AND noun connection. As well as some other useful information.

Apperantly it's a lesser form of rape..

Actually it's something like a hug, but I still call it mind rape.

Glomp: (verb)
(1) To cling to, often in a flirtatious or fondling way
"He glomped onto the vixen's ample bosom."
(2) To grab overzealosly.
"Guest1 glomps onto Guest2. "OMG I M SO GLAD 2 C U!""

My favorite overused/misunderstood muck-related verb is 'smurgle' :D

And what other crowd is heavy in *asterisk roleplaying*? Let's ask Google about glomp.

    Bahaha! Nice one, Computolio.
(Damnit, I keep trying to read your name as Comptulio, which reminds me of an episode of Invader Zim. Bah.)

At any rate, the term 'smurgle' refers to the kneading action performed by babyfurs* baby mammals to induce the release of milk from their mother's nipple.

What amuses me most about that term is that the 'veteran' crowd on a muck I used to hang out on all knew what it meant; yet they had to use teh powar of teh intarnets to look up common slang terms for sex and female anatomy. (Were you there for that, TheBobSays?)

*As if a babyfur would ever go -near- an actual female nipple. Or have one presented to them.

Fortunately Sadly, no. Although it does remind me about a MiSTing in which the original story author had NO concept of female anatomy.

Edit/footnote: Sheesh. If you ever write a sex scene, know that wimmens don't have voluntary muscles to close or open THOSE lips!

Footnote 2: It might have been by Oscar, in which case, perhaps it's best that he didn't know.

Oh GAWD! Babyfurs are bad mojo altogether. So, if this is what smurgle means then what is its opposite?

Well, as an eskimo has nine different names for snow, I suppose TinySex, named after the server software (TinyMuck) isn't too far a stretch, to differentiate between various online venues.

Reaons why "Yiff" and other "Fur Words" should not be considered actual words.

    1. Yiff??? what is that? A foreign car?

    2. Did I leave the stove on?

    3. WHy am I in my pajamas?

Ok I have no real reasons.

Other than... it would waste more time and resources on more retarded crap that we don't need in this world.

'Course if no one's aggregating these for a dictionary, what's the point? This thread could go on all week... it takes literally no time to make a word common usage for a month or so. Asscat. Cockpocket. So long as it's excessively cute or funny.

Okay, I've never heard "asscat" but I have heard "asshat" and to me, "asshat" makes more sense since it's a person who has their head up their ass, thus wearing their ass as a hat. Asshat.

It's perfect for describing quite a few notorious furry fans.

Let's use "asshat" in a sentence, shall we?

See, the thing that bothers me the most about the word "yiff" is not it's direct meaning but the fact that it's damn near impossible to use it ironically. It is that choked with PURE GAY.

Before anyone points anything out, I would like to say that nobody hates this site's title more than me, and I'm the idiot who came up with it. Maybe that's why.

I realize this thread has been pretty well beaten to death, but I was recently reminded of another 'furry term' that annoys the hell out of me: using 'whelpday' instead of 'birthday'.

    Gah!

I refuse to believe that this word exists.

But then, dragons are especially retarded. Dragons are like the furries of furries.

I'm gonna have to agree with that. I have yet to meet anyone that considers themselves a dragon that didn't need years of medical treatment and massive amounts of drugs. Hell, I used to have one as a roommate and he was nuttier then squirrel shit. I've also been exposed to a dragonkin group meet and all I can honestly say is not only do we need doctor assist suicide, we need doctor proscribed and enforced suicide.

Once in a blue moon you'll even run into a reasonably well-adjusted fox, but I have yet to meet a dragon who didn't immediately start ratcheting up the creepy once you had his confidence. Maybe it's just something about the mindset that leads one to identify with strictly mythical creatures.

No, they are just fucking nuts. You look at the people that think they are unicorns. They, for the most part, aren't that bad. Same with a few others. I think the dragonkin and werekin are pretty well just fucked in the head in that special way.

all mythical creature-types are nucking futs.

dragonkin and werekin are nucking futs.

I tend to agree more with Monkey King on this one. Granted, it's still rather like comparing two leaves from the same tree and arguing as to which one is greener, but in my personal experiences, the people who associate with mytical/magical/ethereal/not-of-this-earth kinds of creatures (dragons, unicorns, pegasus (pegasi?), kitsune (the magical kind), shapeshifters, *-taurs, etc.) inhabit a special 'extra crazy' ward of the asylum we call furry.

Being called an asshole or a murrhole, which is more of an insult?

I'm going to have to go with 'asshole', since more often than not the person calling you an asshole is a reasonably well-adjusted member of society.

Whereas with someone calling you a 'murrhole', it's pretty obvious they're a furry, and thus the "insult" can be quickly and effectively countered with one of a hundred responses, such as "Shut up, you gay furry", or "Haha, what kind of loser uses the word 'murrhole'?".

To be honest, it's not the fact that they're mythical that attracts the nuts - it's the fact that they're perceived as powerful. I mean, let's face it, ignoring the whole furry/otherkin angle, dragons are fucking awesome, in the same way that tyrannosaurs in F-14s are awesome.
Unicorns and pixies and whateverthefuck else just don't have the same presence as the good ol' dragon. It's the same reason why you see a lot of fucked up griffins as well. And if you see a minotaur, don't even bother.

After all, if you need to pick an alter-ego before you'll feel better about yourself, you're not going to pick something crap like a brownie, are you?

Point taken. Also explains the overabundance of wolves, tigers, and other large predator-types.
