Guess they got tired of having change logs three pages long. Whatever will Xydexx do with his time now?

"The picture was only on the page for a minute. But whoever opens the article at this moment will get annoyed -- and therefore doubt our credibility," he told the paper.

Credibility? When was the Amateurs' Encyclopedia credible?

Citing a recent example of vandalism, Wales recalled how following the election of the new
Pope Benedict in April, a user substituted the pontiff's photo on the Wikipedia site with that of the evil emperor from the Star Wars film series.

I'm sorry but I found that amusing. XD

I would like to note that any idiot who uses Wikipedia as a factual resource in any sort of scholarly work is a complete moron who needs to be sent back to elementary school. I actually had some freshman in this elective class using >>WIKIPEDIA<< and elementary school websites as resources in a 2,000 word college paper.... the TAs found that pretty annoying and amusing at the same time. :3

Long story short, use actual realworld material and leave the internet to the uneducated morons. :>

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

When you give idiots like xydexx free reign to edit a page - ANY page at all, on any subject, I think you lose all credibility right there.

I am all for it that Wiki introduces User accounts.
So they can track who edited what and if they behave like screwballs
ban them. It works for art archives to a certain degree.
It may not stop people like Mister Squeakypony but it can slow them down.

It already has user accounts, and they do track who posts what. You just don't have to be logged in to post.

Yes,they have those.
I have one.
Let me correct myself : "user accounts"="effective individual ban-able user accounts".

The thing is, that barely works on message boards. Some people are maddengly inventive in their efforts to return to places where they are explicitly not welcome. No mere IP ban is going to stand in the way when there's fursecution to combat!

Incidentally, you'd be a fool to put any serious stock in Wikipedia, but you have to admit it's convenient when you just want to look something up really quick and get the gist of things. It doesn't hurt to at least try to enforce some quality standards.
