There's LOOTING going on! Christ on a cross, what are these people thinking? Shouldn't they be helping out their fellow man?! It's not just supplies needed to survive, these people are taking stupid shit and flat out robbing each other.
OH NOES! SOMEONE CALL THE POL-- OH WAIT THEY SHOT THEM. WAAH.
Where are the armed forces like FEMA and the National guard when you need them for shit like this? Well, FEMA had its budget cut, and the NG is overseas. God, what a disaster.
The Red Cross is down there. I would imagine Bush would get FEMA down there if, you know, he wasn't so emo over losing all that oil. On that note, here in North Carolina there is NO gas. Yesterday I watched people LINED UP IN THE STREETS to pay $4.75 a gallon, and when it ran out, they were FIGHTING over it. I put $40 in my car and barely got over a half a tank. There closing schools here because there's no gas to get there. So yeah, not just LA is suffering because of this. |

No, the police are looting too. Some reporters caught on film these four cops in a Wal-Mart, with shopping carts, helping themselves alongside the looters.
Since they're evacuating the entire city, I personally think they should declare the city No Man's Land, and shoot on sight anybody they catch out there. Just kill the fucking looters. |

Man, that's about the only piece of news related to all of this that's caught me off guard. I expected looting, but not by the authorities. What happened to setting the example? :( |

The advertisement I got on that newssite was fucked up. "Discover the sunshine coast's only over water apartments - Click here for a new perspecive on waterfront living". Sardonic coincidence. |

In early 2004, as the cost of the conflict in Iraq soared, President Bush proposed spending less than 20 percent of what the Corps said was needed for Lake Pontchartrain, according to a Feb. 16, 2004, article, in New Orleans CityBusiness.
On June 8, 2004, Walter Maestri, emergency management chief for Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; told the Times-Picayune: "It appears that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's the price we pay. Nobody locally is happy that the levees can't be finished, and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a security issue for us." |

I see you haven't dealt with the cops much. There just as big a criminals as the guys they arrest and steal drugs from. A cops job isn 't to uphold the law, it's to find an excuse to put you in jail and gather revenue for the city. This isn't an absolute but most cops i've dealt with are fucked up SOB's. The only reason you don't hear about it more is cuz public complaints are swept under the rug and the cops look out for each other.
Also i have an aunt off the coast of Alabama and theres no phones over there, she lives in a trailer park. Pity she's the most worthless human ever to walk the earth, then i might be really worried about her. Even my mom doesn't give a shit about her. |

It's discouraging to hear stories where the police act in the exact same manner as the criminals. They should be above that sort of thing. And considering how stringent the selection process is (I'm going through it right now) it's damn shocking that these kind of people can ever get on the force. >:/ |

Have they no taste? I guess looting is more of a reflex crime to some than others. In L.A. at least looters had the sense to steal TVs and stuff that was worth something on a black market. Why rob a Wal-mart of it's cheap crap, seriously? |

In defense of the looters, some of them are just taking food and water and dry clothing because the relief organizations haven't reached them yet (and they are taking their sweet time to reach people, or so the news tells me.) I'm a pretty law abiding person, but if I was in their shoes, I'd be taking supplies from Wal-Mart too. People shouldn't be expected to watch their children go hungry because it's technically breaking the law to take food. The cops have even let "peaceful looting" occur for these reasons.
Now, as for the idots taking big screen TVs and bling bling, frag them all. After all, WHERE DO YOU PLUG THE TV IN? |

Im actually pretty sick of hearing about the looting ... the main reason for that is, every single person that brings it up -- I can totally tell they keep thinking "L.A. Riots '96" in thier head
And that's terribly incorrect.
I actually got into a minor argument with my dad while I was on my way out the door to work today... I was like if my town had to be evactuated and I was left here for whatever reason and couldn't get out and everything was flooded ... my first step is - I slosh up to the (now) abandoned corner gas station and take what I need. If I have to smash a window, I dont give a shit. Water, food... and fuck it, Im taking beer and cigarettes as well. And there would be no apology for it, either. By the time everyone got back (in the case of NO, what is it 3-4-5-6 months?), whats it all gonna be worth? In a riot type looting situation - there was no problem prior.. so it was all morally wrong. In NO's case, this is a serious fucking distaster. Anyone who didn't see looting happening is an idiot.. In most cases it was 100% justified and acceptable. In every other case (jewelry, electronics) its completely expected. Gems, gold, jewelry, its small, you throw it in the vault before you leave or take it with you.. if you can't or don't.. consider it gone.. where is the shock coming from? No insurance? The sentiment I keep picking up its like these looters are destroying thier city and neighborhoods... uhm... HELLO?!?! IT WAS A FUCKING CAT5 HURRICAINE THAT DESTROYED THE CITY. Bitching about property at this point is just petty. No one's a winner here. Oh, a fucking walmart super center (or whatever) suffers 1.4 million dollars in structural damage .. lets bitch about $1500 worth of color tv's that got looted from the electronics department.. who gives a fuck? If some guy wants to slosh 6 blocks home in waist deep water full of sewage, oil, chemicals, fire ants, and god knows what else - more power to him. I really mean that. Far as Im concerned, they earned it.
Also, every person commenting on this shit is watching it on the news. Keep in mind if you were actually in New Orleans... there is a hell of a lot of 'fog of war' going on. You have no water, no food, no electricity, no radio (at least not everyone does) , no tv, no A/C.... none of that shit.. you'd be lucky to know whats going on the next block over...
These people have been there for days at this point.. they might hear news when cops pass through the area, but other than that.. for them everything got turned upside down Monday morning. Theres news choppers flying over and they are hearing it'll be months before this shit is straightened out. Time is moving faster for you, going about your normal lives, than it is for a group a people sitting on the 2nd floor of an isolated flooded building.
They should be focusing on evacuating the city - and don't worry, the tvs and boomboxes and the stolen shit will mostly get left behind. The net result would be nothing.
The only real law and order issue is the actual psychos that are apperently hijacking trucks headed for hospitals and all this.. thats what the guard and whoever else needs to worry about. The guys that make bad neighborhoods bad. These are the guys looting guns and walking around the streets killing people. |

If you haven't already, go read this LJ, which is being maintained by a guy in a datacenter in NO.
Three days ago, police and national guard troops told citizens to head toward the Crescent City Connection Bridge to await transportation out of the area. The citizens trekked over to the Convention Center and waited for the buses which they were told would take them to Houston or Alabama or somewhere else, out of this area.
It's been 3 days, and the buses have yet to appear.
He says it's the slowest mandatory evacuation ever, and he wants to know why they were told to go to the Convention Center area in the first place; furthermore, he reports that many of them with cell phones have contacts willing to come rescue them, but people are not being allowed through to pick them up.

...and much, much more. |

Yeah, I heard that the convention center is about to get really bad, theres already corpses all over the place
what a fuckin nightmare
I dont know what Im talking about, but it seems to me they outta be dropping everything and getting every bus available from even nearby states to get in there and get people the fuck out of there. Get choppers from all possible surrounding states and areas, comb the city, and start picking people up. They are talking 12 hour bus rides as it is, whats the big deal of flying helicopters from a couple states away? |

Your city has been destroyed. You cannot escape. You have no reliable sources of clean food and water.
And you're stealing a literal boatload of shoes? Priorities, man! Speaking of, the 'looting' or whatever is rampant because emergency crews are busy evacuating and rescuing stranded people. Property will come later.
Where is the Louisiana National Guard? About 80% of it is in Louisiana. And they are now bringing out the elite guard, with 'shoot to kill' orders.
We've seen this coming. There was a full report out circa 1991 that laid out this disaster perfectly. There was this National Geographic article from late 1994 that might well have been written today, for its accuracy. Living and working there was a calculated risk, and as Americans we're all expected to pay for the risks they took. Oh, that Bush stripped the budget for the levee maintenance departments? Like I said, we knew there was a major problem for 15 years - didn't Clinton feel like paying the thing off?
Well, the whole thing is surreal. Reports of zombie like people, just too shocked to do more than wander around... Wal-Marts raided for their guns... the dead outnumbering the living... Romero couldn't've written a better story. |

At this point I think the shoes and clothes etc are only worth anything if you looted them. I wouldnt buy "new" products that have been submerged in rank water.
I read somewhere over on poe-news.... These people carjacking ? I'd rather jack a boat and get the fuck out of there.
You can only drive a car in so deep of water before it either restricts the exhaust too much, or the water gets taken into the engine at which point it stops dead, obviously
For that matter, I bet about a year from now, a lot of these fucked flooded cars are going to wind for sale up North -- which is pretty common. |

You know, I have some guilt over this. My first name is Katrina, and I swear to god I've had about 50 people get all up in my ass like "OMG U MESSED UP NOW CLEAN UP THAT MESS MISSY". My boyfriend keeps me updated on the damage and is always telling me that I'm "its mommy" and it "wants to impress" me. He's just being cute, everyone else thinks it's wicked funny, but I'm a pretty neurotic person.
New Orleans is my favourite city due to my obsession with the necrotic and voodoo especially. It's got a horrible history under its veneer of partying and drinking, making it a very decadent place in a lot of ways. I find it fascinating, and the idea of it being destroyed (and in such a way) is painful to me. I expected the damn hurricane to be one of those little ones that destroys a couple of houses and fades.
I've been feeling shitty over this for a while now, for several reasons. I kinda want to be there to help, or donate something, but I'm pretty much dirt poor when it comes to my own assets and not those I'm borrowing. |

Pretty good, i see no arguments except for the bush bashers aren't good at critical thinking. Maybe the ones in the context of what you were talking about but i live in the bay, and we're all bush bashers 8)
I've passed up 3 oppotunities to donate to the relief, i really should do that. I give about 5 bucks a day to the homeless in SF, maybe they'll have to starve for a week so others can eat. |

This whole hurricane thing is pretty ridicilous.
When it was on the sea it's power was 5
When it reached the ground it fell on 1
It is very small hurricane, and still America is crushing under it? People in the goverment try to rule the world, but if a hurricane with power of "1" is enough to cause such hassle, i wonder what few atom bombs will do

My opinion:
(misappropriated public domain comic strip)
This is mostly in response to our favourite pseudopostmodern pseudofemale pseudovixen's pseudointellectual argle bargle: part 1 (and a response from a chap called Ilthuain), part 2 (and another Ilthuain response), part 3.
But wait! There's more: Xydexx has the incredibly bright idea that people shouldn't live in dangerous areas; way to be an expert logician, d00d. And Triggur stopped obsessing over feces long enough to whine about hurricane victims wanting help. How dare they go and lose their homes, belongings, and sometimes friends and relatives! The cads!
And last, but definitely not least, is Banner, whose DEMOCRATS ARE EVIL ideology is so monomaniacal that I'd think he was a troller if he didn't have a page about the wild felines he keeps. He is definitely the winner in the Needing a Swat on the Noggin with a Big Stick Sweepstakes, having smoothly incorporated the hurricane into his regular program of gibbering about the vast evil liberal conspiracy. Oh well, at least he doesn't make crappy webcomics too.
Further proof that FURRIES RUIN EVERYTHING. |

Iron bear managed to humble a few of them with a nice clear point about, you know, the Hurrican victims being um... victims.
Issue: furries love to analyze others from their ivory tower and pick and choose which are just causes, then proceed to inform everyone with LJ of their opinions... because it's better than analyzing themselves and getting depressed.
Dumbest shit ever. Almost as bad as the fuckwad who commented on Kage's journal about why the Tsunami victims deserved it for living on the coast. After all, we all should be able to afford a nuke/tsunami/rapture-proof bunker in the fucking mountains of tibet.
Furries are motherfucking morons, who should never discuss anything dealing with current events, politics or society.
Edit: Seems like Triggur doesn't like the negative attention. Entry is gone... |

Where the hell is the TRIBUTE ART? You know, the stuff with (FURRY AVATAR) shedding a tear in front of poorly-drawn rubble?
WHY ARE YOU DISAPPOINTING ME INTERNET |

Where the hell is the TRIBUTE ART?
Furries aren't certain whether their friends want them to celebrate the hurricane killing stupid people, mourn the victims, insult FEMA, or draw a gigantic nipple-cocked vixen sodomizing Bush. |

Here's my pic with a guest appearance by CigarSkunk, which gives me a blowjob factor of 4! |

What kind of freaks me out about this is how slow the response has been. I thought that America was supposed to be beefin up it's ability to handle large scale disasters after 9/11. Whats the deal? If the idea was to be able to respond to a purposeful act of destruction then why is it so hard to respond to an act of nature.
I don't know maybe this has been addressed in the news, forgive me if that's the case. I really haven't had time to follow this whole story what with working full-time while attending college full time.
(umm insert mspaint drawn tribute art, along with clever comment) |

FEMA played it by the book and actually sent kits down there with things like anthrax vaccines.

It's amazing how incompetent our government actually is.
Also you don't really want to know how national security funds are distributed and spent. |

Didn't they bring the army in to kill looter while lot's of people were still without food and water? Talk about fucked up priorities. I was reading in the chronicle the other day some peoples testimonies from going through this. Talking about trying to get to sleep and being awakened by the screams of rape victims from accross the street and nobody did shit. Jesus what is wrong with these people? I hope there are a lot of arrests after this is over. |

The stupidest thing I've heard lately is that someone stole a bus to save a whole bunch of people, and he got them all the way to texas... where he was promptly arrested by the police for stealing a car.
Way to thank him for his civic contribution, texas.
Also, triggur needs to get testicular cancer and die. That is all. |

Really? That sucks for him, but it's probably good for humanity in the long run. What happened? My buddy just got one removed for cancer, since they leave the epididymous in he says you can barely tell the difference. Out of my 20 or so male friends, 3 have had testie cancer, those odds are scary. |

Very touching.
If you can't find any nonsense done by furries... make it yourself ?
Nonsense like that isn't exclusive to furries or desasters. Like the whole "I <3 Jark" craze on DevArt. I bet that man had more pics dedicated to him than 9/11. |

There I sit and think you guys make a parody of something that does not exist... but it does.
Though it does not contain the shitting of dicked nipples.

Damn.
The links you provided that worked were funnier than our INTENTIONALLY funny parodies. The little kitties in the recycling bin was priceless, that and the tombstone one. Furries need to realize that not EVERTHING they draw requires anthro characters. |

Wow. What baserock love said. Some of that stuff compares badly to the parodies posted here. Just when I thought people were starting to overdo it with the "tribute pics" parodies, turns out they were being kind with their parodies.
Yet more proof that FURRY RUINS EVERYTHING. |

Wow, that is truely tasteless. They might as well have shown a black guy drowning. If i was going to make a memorial pic for the holocaust, i wouldn't show a pile of jews shrieking in terror and urinating on each other as they got gassed with "gone but not forgotten" in the corner. Yeesh. |

Yeah, but there's a big difference between a picture whose purpose ostensibly is to commemorate someone (as all that furry crap) and a picture whose purpose is to enrage people in order to make them enlist (as the poster - which I assume is referring to the sinking of the Lusitania, which played a big role in making the US decide to enter WWI). |

Well, the Lusitania poster is powerful even if it is an example of emotionally manipulative propaganda (hmm, that's probably redundant), while the furry "tributes"...gosh, I don't even know where to begin with them. They're tasteless in a way that I can't articulate. |

Reading my own post there, I don't think I was being too clear. So: The Lusitania poster is, well, in good taste is the wrong term, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It has genuine emotional impact, even if it's a deliberately manipulated impact. The furry stuff OTOH... I agree it's tasteless, and I can't help but get the feeling that it's less about commemorating the victims than about being drama-ish and superficially emo - because you see a lot of that with furries in general. It would be wrong to say that the "artists" are definitely being insincere with those "tributes", some of them probably are sincere, but they're done in a manner that is both crude and inappropriate. |

The lusitania poster is there to inspire rage. A recruitment poster that showed jews being gassed that said "enlist" would be very effective. It wants to make you so steaming mad that your anger will overide your judgement and you'll sign that paper before your anger subsides and you realize you just most likely signed your death warrent.
Hurricane katrina was a tragedy and nobody is responsible for it except nature (and global warming possibly) so dwelling on the graphic anguish of victims si not going to mobilize anything more than something that is not graphic.
I think the key thing that we're missing is that this idiot is trying to memorialize a tragedy that may have killed 25,000 people BY SHOWING A FUCKING DOG DROWNING!!! These were real people, humans over there that died, i didn't even realize how truly terrible that pic was. WE'VE GOT THOUSANDS DEAD OVER THERE AND YOUR MEMORIALIZING A FUCKING DOG! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS STUPID BITCH? Who gives a flying fuck about a dog THESE ARE HUMANS. obviously this is supposed to be symbolism or a metaphore or whatever but it was absolutely the poorest choice of imagery you could use besides maybe a rat or a blackface character.
This pic makes me not sure if this is a sorry attempt at symbolism or THE BITCH IS RACIST AND COMPARING BLACK PEOPLE TO DOGS. :x
I could see this on a white pride site with a caption that says "niggers, drown like dogs! Yay katrina!" |

Nah - the forum operates with post count-based user ranks, so when baserock love made his 400th post, "Vociferator" automatically replaced "WARNED". And just for the record, it's Mitch who holds the banhammer. |

Actually, a "WARNED" overrides the post-count-related ranks. I just like to remove the "WARNED" titles after a while, when I remember. Looking at the data, the only people currently "WARNED" are all inactive posters. |

D'oh! All three of us were wrong! Today's lesson: don't post conjecture. |

Compared to this mess,Ivan was a gentleman...one of the Nat.guardsmen/rescue crewmen said it was like an Atomic bomb blast with out the fallout,Personally,I think he was being too kind...It was as if some ancient wrathful elder god of old laid a vengful wrath upon the land..devastation running to the horizion....God help our countrymen down there..and the rest of us as well, for this will effect the economy, the infrastructure and security of our Nation...God help us all,God help us all. |
