ALL hollywood movies based on video games suck. Remember Super Mario Brothers?
Anyway, the only exception to this rule were the Tomb Raider series. Although I was sorely disappointed since they never shown that woman's breats, considering that was the only reason why I even watched those cheesy, hacked acting, plotless movie in the first place. |

I have high hopes for the Metroid movie directed by John Woo. I despise action movies and John Woo, but at least he's at the top of his trade and the Metroid franchise has a very interesting story behind it, especially if it goes into Samus's back story and childhood. i wonder where they will find a 6 foot 3 woman that's hot though? |

I'm not seeing it, i'm not sure which part of the doom series this movie follows but none of them really had any story to begin with. how do you make a movie based on a game that is the epitome of mindless run and gun shooting? they should have this and the Halo movie be a double feature, the two of them combined might equal 1 mediocre story. don't get me wrong, i beat doom 3 about a month ago and had a blast.
One game that could make a fricking AWESOME animated movie would be Killer7, i'm sure nobody on here played it (just like nobody on earth bought it  ) It wouldn't have to be animated but if it was live action, it would need a lot of filters and fucked up contrast to work. |

Eh, it doesn't look THAT bad, and at least The Rock doesn't play "Doom-Guy". |

But does it have hell demons? Or yet another Parasite Eve/Resident Evil -esque mutation instead? |

Most movies based on games suck, but I thought that the movies of Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and Tomb Raider were cool. |

Doom Book
They seem to have ruined the cover. The book isn't that bad since it adds two more characters as it goes on. It even has clever foreshadowing like where they burn all these organic flesh cubes and shit but they can't burn the bone cubes so the guy is like LET THEM ANIMATE SKELETONS THEN
and so they did. |

The plot of the doom game was essentially, "If you have enough shotgun shells you can kill Hell". There are no demons in the movie, just "genetic mutations" Therefore it will suck. |

Yeah it probably will suck. I'll still watch it though.
I do think if you have enough shotgun shells you can KILL HELL.
I have my own idea for an animated DOOM movie that I hope me and the guys can finish by the end of next year. (2006)
DOOM, Escape from HELL
No plot, no story, no character building.... the title says it all.
When we're done (if we can pull it off) you guys will be the first to know. |

Well, the rock said he was going to shoot the BFG-9000... that might be reason enough to see it.
I sincerely hope they atleast give it a DEMONIC feel.
Like having these all over the place.
-EDIT-
I just noticed the word "RASOPHORE" under my name... What does that mean? |

As far as I know a "Rasophore" is a second level monk in the Orthodox Church. The levels are Novice, Rasophore, Stavroporos, and Megaloschema. |

Dictionary.com is a two-bit whore when compared to Merriam-Webster.
Well, this DOOM movie better not suck (and it will)... |

I have fond memories of the original DOOM series. It was one of the first games I ever played on a local LAN I was working on back in 1995... we'd spend hours after hours playing it, until my eyes hurted.
However, I can't tell if this movie is a good idea. One of the things I remember of the original DOOM games was the atmosphere of desolation, claustrophoby and misery on the game. You were the only human being alive in a world of destruction and death, feeling your life worth nothing, knowing you'd at least take as many enemies to hell with you as you could, and ignoring what would you find next, walking around on an oppresive gore landscape, unfriendly and hostile to you. You ignore what's going on beyond your sight, you can't tell if there are more people alive, or if there's anything to make the fight worth it. No radios, no helping people...
It's precisely that uncertainity what made the game worth the effort, something that was lost on further FPS games. Heretic and Exen took place on a site other than our Earth, in Duke Nukem the atmosphere was different -something like a furry's wet dream; all chicks loved the ugly monsters by some reason I didn't understand; Quake... welll.... Quake's scenery was a sort of acrobatic circus, and I don't have enough computer power to play newer games, despite I've seen a few ones that take more emphasis on realism on characters and situations.
Then again, if the movie manages to catch that atmosphere the original DOOM had, I'll sure watch it. If it's just an excuse to get as goreish and insanely violent as FX allow nowadays, then I'm out. |

I'm seeing Doom for free tonight which may, depending on the movie's quality, be not much different than accidentally staying in the same hotel as a furry con. Hellish mediocrity or mediocre hellishness or both at the same time.
At least it won't have that tiger guy in it.
I hope. |

Overall, the movie was pretty good. It had a brief 1st person scene in it and a few plot twists...
I give it a B. |
