Here's an Iranian cartoon promoting suicide bombing. I'm torn between feeling sorry for the people who are forced to become bombers and laughing my ass off at the horrible cartoon.

I'm sure the next episode shows people stoning adulterers to death.

Something is fucking wrong with those people. Maybe it's just me, but the idea of telling a bunch of kids to go off themselves doesn't quite seem right to me. Not just the encouraged infanticide, or the premeditated murder, but something about that whole tape just made me feel really, really homicidal towards Iran and it's people. Guess it had the opposite effect.

Then again, I'm a godless american heathen, so what do I know? :roll:

Yes, drawing/sculpting/creating anything with a human resemblance according to extremely (very extreme) hard-line Muslims is considered an affront to Allah because they believe that humans are trying to create something equal to humanity. Or that's the gist of what I remember of it... but it's not a common belief among moderate Muslims..

Except it's not moderate Muslims encouraging kids to go blow themselves up for Allah, so this would seem to be at cross-purposes with its own doctrines.

How it is supposed to promote is a simple, formulaic plan used by all.

Unnecessary cruelty done by enemy, attempt to gain sympathy from audience.
Attempt at a response, response is put down.
Enemy leaves, making sure the audience hates him.
Main character vows vengeance, seeks guidance.
Friend shows up, leads to someone who can 'help.'
Main character joins up with group, vows revenge.
Group attacks, main character does something unique/stands out.
Deaths, in this case, everyone, to stun the audience.
Impressionable youth shows up, possibly to identify with the audience.
Youth shows symbolic support, to give an air of martyrdom and legitimacy.

Now you're trying to be logical about it. War is old men sending young men out to die. And the first objective of an organization is to continue existing. Were there to be peaceful co-existance, then the reason for these terrorist groups would no longer hold.

Therefore, the actual interest of the groups run counter to palestinian interest: they need to have constant war at all costs, which is why they try to derail the peace process. Some terrorist groups (names are failing me here) are actually entering the political arena to hedge their bets, to evolve.
