Looks like somebody has a fetish...

edit: That's 20 minutes of my life I want back... sweet jesus, that guy can't leave anything alone. It's all there: powerpuff girls, samurai jack, courage, dexter, zim... I bet whoever does that comic spends a lot of time in Spencer's and Hot Topic.

What exactly is a 'Doujinshi'? I did a LITTLE googling and all I can figure is it basically Japanese for fanfic. Or is it specific for comics/graphic novels? educate me

The comic is well-drawn. However, it's also your typical fanfic. Characters from different universes fighting against their respective villains. And it has angst. Thankfully, the angst is restrained so we don't have the Professor raping the girls or Mojo Jojo slitting his wrists, but we do have Deedee getting shot. I am also led to infer from the scene where Dexter and Deedee meditate that Deedee has cancer or something of the like. I get the feeling it's just a sht lollipop wrapped up in a nice, shiny wrapper.

Also, seeing Samurai Jack in sweat pants looks fucked up.

I ran into the same thing a while back.

Far as I can tell a 'Doujinshi' is literally just a publication of fan art from a bunch of artists all contributing. I think thats why these things get pretty big in size. It sounds like doujinshi and fan APA-zine would almost be the same thing.

They seem to usually have a lot of fucked up content , tho I don't think the actual of definition necessitates that. At the same time this PPG comic, if its done by 1 person, it would seem its not actually a doujinshi

Not really into the whole anime/manga/japanese. Im sure theres someone around here who knows for sure.

Guy's got talent and all, but wouldn't it be so much better if he did stories with his own, original characters? That way he could publish on his own site, or in print, and get out of the tiny DeviantArt box he has to stay in to avoid lawsuits.

'Doujinshi' is generally manga fan-fic, and can be a group effort or a solo project. Comic/cartoon/videogame characters are most common, though just about anything pop culture will have it's own doujinshi, I reckon (I have a Gorillaz doujinshi a friend sent me from Japan).

(This is the second place today I've seen this linked; must be a meme going round...)

This guy is talented. He's definitely studied his "How to Draw Manga" books.... but... jeez... what is this.. Cartoon Network potluck stew? I also see Billy and Mandy from the "Grim Adventures" cartoon that changes names every other week... I. M. Weasel.. I think there's the kid from Time Squad... and, Mother McRee... it just wouldn't be this assemblage of obsessive drek if Grim didn't come to take Dee Dee away. I wonder when Fred Flinstone will show up on a Jetsons-powered brontosaurus tank* to face off agains the Kids Next Door.

And why does fanfic always seem to have to throw in all of this angst? It's like it's not enough for the author to simply pattern a story in the spirit of the show.... they insist on turning it into some mega-drama. I can overlook taking NIMH characters and adding excessive angst in, since the film was kind of moody to begin with. But when you take something that's just meant to be silly.. like the cartoons featured in this thing.. and start throwing all of this angst in.... especially having the most ludicrously ditzy character choking up blood... you just crossed over into flavor country.... dumb-flavored country.

You know, I have to say, I started to like it once I finished it up to the last "page". Only thing that really irks me is that he is desperately trying to be Fred Perry and failing at it. It's good art, probably going to have decent story once it's all said and done.

This looks like a copyright infringement. Not in the look of the chars, but in the usage of copyrighted trademarks and the stuff.
Anyone's got a clue on how to 'accuse' them to the cartoon producers?

In Japan you can do a doujinshi with an otherwise copyrighted characters, then sell it on a commercial market as "a parody". A lot of pro mangakas start as a doujin artists.

They don't even have to label it "parody" to get away with it in Japan. The Japanese publishers and artists not only regard the doujinshi as breeding grounds for new artists (as you pointed out) but also as free advertisement. Western publishers look at these things quite differently, and that comic there is just calling for a "cease and desist" letter from Cartoon Networks' legal dept. - precisely because it isn't a parody, but someone appropriating the characters for his own story, which does not fall under "fair use". Then again, maybe Cartoon Network doesn't give a fuck, there's so many weird PPG "fan works" out there...

I heard a story a year or so ago about some huge PPG fan who was working at some supermarket somewhere in the U.S.
Anyway , this guy created all these banners and posters and shit for the store with PPG stuff on it and I hear CN got wind of it and liked his work so much that they hired him.

I don't have any other details, maybe someone else heard a similiar thing before? Either way, that deviates from the norm for sure. If it happened I wonder if that guy is liking his new job or wishing he was back stocking shelves or whatever. his Yahoo! profile)

Speaking of, I hear ghetto-mart Aldi's pays thier stock people $11+ an hour. I make $10 at my oh so illustrious office job that I been working for four years. I mean jesus, can you even think of an easier job where you'd make that kind of money than doing the stocking at a place like Aldi's? You just bring pallettes of the one brand of each type of item they carry and put in on the floor somewhere in the store.

Honestly, I wouldn't. There is no need to. It's just a fan being a fan.

Yes, but now he's trying to sell the comics. I wouldn't be one to report him in and I know I'm no legal expert, but I left a warning on his page about how it's probably not a good idea to try and sell someone else's copyrighted creations.
