VG Cats featured this comic that tickled me no end as a veteran witness of some obnoxiously intense comic-shop conversations... complete with the fanboy bloated sense of entitlement.

Can't find the one where the gray cat threatens to kill a guy who calls him a furry. Oh well.

VG Cats is starting to get spoiled in terms of fan pornography coming from the furries, which is quite a shame because it's a 'furry' comic that definitely has its moments (though, like all webcomics, it's not consistently funny).

But I'm not worried that it'll become the next Sabrina, because the author is neutral to mildly disapproving (more neutral really) of furries and is a far cry from the shambling vortex of sad that is Eric Schwartz. Amusingly enough, Scott R. evidently doesn't care about the porn much, which in comparison to EWS is pure irony.

It's a fucking webcomic. So what? I'm confused - yes - but Christ - there are billions, and they all suck. So this one has cats who I assume play games. Great. That's the target demigraphic: Internet losers who have no social skills.

...it'll make a fortune.

Well good fuck. Why was that one taken out of the archives?

Anyway. As Ramsoomair stated a while back, VG Cats ain't furry. It was a 'hey, let's do a comic with my pet cats, it'll be fresh!' Comparing him to Schwartz is like... comparing someone cool to... someone not. I'm sure I had something witty back there.

Web comic artists are awesome. They attend the conventions that appeal most to their fans and actually mingle with their readers. This kind of contact does introduce them to the weirder aspects of online life - namely, the furries. Ian McConville (Mac Hall) has been officially weirded out by requests for his moogle character naked (site search for 'moogle porn' returns a post by Stars' Pyre). And search these strip comments for 'sub culture'. Furries've hit Sluggy as well. And someone said something about someone ruining everything... just give them enough time and they will...

VG Cats is <...> a 'furry' comic

FYI, Its not a furry comic, its a videogame geek comic.

Thus, the difference between "comic with funny animals" and "furry".

"Furry" is a term that pretty much means "this is a comic that exists only because the characters are animal-like and will appeal to an existing fanbase. There is nothing more to this comic except that"

"Comic with funny animals" (I dont even want to say "anthropomorphic" since that is pretty much a synonym for furry anyway) isn't necessarily furry. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that comics such as VG cats are definatly NOT furry.

Hypothetically, could I call such comics 'furry' to piss people off and start internet fights, tho ? :D

Did you follow that 'sub culture' link, and read the bit about the Second Life gay furry harem??
Not discussed were the even stranger politics of a Second Life gay furry harem and how they have all moved in together in real life after knowing each other for two weeks online.

Never mentioned was how the Master of the now-real-life group (yes, it's a gay, furry, BDSM harem) forbids STD testing, 'meatbag' clothes and jobs or contact with the outside world.

Avoided also, discussion about the sex parties where the new gay, furry, BDSM, harem slaves 'entertain' guests of the master fur at his order.

Yes, we're talking real life now. In a neighborhood. Near you.

I googled that quote and found the message board it was posted on. By the way, in a moment of complete retardedness, I thought the window with that board was actually this board, and I got confused as hell. ("Who the hell are all these people?")

Anyway, that blog also contains this which I think is just priceless, Sorry for the big quote:

...Say you want to try out this fur thing. Well, first up you must realize that the fur world, oddly enough, mirrors the real animal kingdom, social status in the fur community is based on who you are shagging. And unless you want to be a nothing you're going to have to pimp your ass to get noticed.

A new fur may even be ignored by some until the newby has gained status through working their way up the social sex chain. Perhaps a fur DJ will be the first person you yiff. He or she will, of-course, take pictures and advertise their conquest in their private rooms for other furs to see. But don't worry, this is a good thing. Now when people see who you've done you'll have some social status, especially if you were good. Slowly you work your way the social ladder, perhaps a land owner next, then a group leader, a popular club owner and so on. Pretty soon good reports of your sexual behavior, along with pictures, are plastered everywhere and you are now popular with many followers. Just like the animal world, banging the alpha male or female has its perks.

Now you'll find others wanting to use you as their ladder to greater things and your Second Life sex life becomes as busy as you want. Unless of course, you spread it around too much. Sex for status implies that what is going on is something special. If you're important and you shag 100 people no one will think much of them and they won't bother with you any more. Shag one and that person is obviously very special and cool and you will be in even more demand from the proles

Follow my tips and you're well on the way to being a top fur. Fantastic!

I've never really thought of VG Cats as furry. It happens to have funny animal characters in it.. but they don't always appear in the strip. Funny animal characters aren't worked in simply for the sake of having them in there. I like Rasoomair's style, even if it appears to draw heavily on Gainax's comic anime style. One of the main things I enjoy about VG Cats is it's a gaming comic I can understand. Comics like Penny Arcade and even Real Life Comics at times make such obscure "in" references to comics that, as someone who doesn't play most of these things, I'm often lost. A lot of comics like those will reference some miniscule incident or feature in a game that you have to be 50 hours into it to be familiar with what they're basing their whole joke on. Personally, assuming I've played FFXI enough to know a secondary character has some tattoo of a Pedobear on her butt means you lose at the funny. VG Cats bases most of its gaming comics on concepts that pretty much anyone that is familiar with the idea of the game can grasp. If you've seen an ad for it, you probably know enough to get the joke.

Speaking of PA, anyone else wanna give "Tycho" a slap with his own cardboard tube for some of his editorials? I mean... sheesh.. this guy seems to almost intentionally bury his meaning beneath a thesaurus... turning, "I had a sandwich" into something like, "I partook of a ambrosial morsel of deli-shaved victuals tucked dilatorily between dual slices of multigrain comestibles." No matter how good a wordsmith you are, you can still lose points for clarity, y'know. Eschew osbfucation. :)

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have called it furry (though I did put it in quotes). I only did so because its fanbase seems to be largely furries (or at least VG Cats has a huge following within the furry fandom), so I called it a 'furry' comic by association.

It's the same thing as calling, say, Sonic 'furry' nowadays. Although the creators aren't furries, the majority of Sonic fans are or basically are, so it arguably deserves the label.
