So. Who all here's been driven far enough to register an account on a major MUCK? If you know the right people, it's nonstop drama. Really... inconsequential drama. But entertaining if you're depressed enough to watch pathetic losers waste ten hours a day to call each other names. And with the right MUCK you get real time lunacy from: Xydexx, Groat, Kelly Price, Winger, and many many others!
But I digress. Anyone? |

I basically idle for 4 hours a night on IRC while I'm doing other stuff... I can't imagine bothering registering for a MUCK |

I had an account a REALLY long time ago, and would log in randomly (about once every 2 months or so) until finally my account got deleted for inactivity. FurryMUCk is fucking gigantic. I remember not really knowing anything more than the basic movement commands, and I just went to explore randomly.
I remember being in some restaurant run by NPC pandas, then finding a teleporter which took me to some forest. I wandered around the forest until I found a well, and I somehow fell in and it dropped me into the australian outback. It literally felt like the outback, since I wandered around aimlessly without meeting anyone else. I think I somehow managed to find a pond, and waded into the pond where it took me somewhere else.
Later with a bit more help from a muck-wise friend, I wandered around and wound up in some underground sex bazaar. I logged out, not knowing my character just sat there. Someone else told me people were doing weird things with my sleeping form, so I logged back in only to find out I had been relocated to some weird hotel. I wandered out of there and basically just plundered around cluelessly until I got bored.
I seriously don't remember ever stopping to talk to anyone, and even though I tried to find the more famous locales (WCOTP, some weird gay bar, etc) I never could find any of them. It was actually a really cool experience IMO. I would get invited to friend's apartments and they would have all kinds of bizzare tricks and tomfoolery set up. I was sincerely impressed. Most of the time I wasn't sure if I was dealing with scripted NPC's or actual other real people. I think in all my wanderings I never found the same places twice, even though I would look for them. |

I haven't checked the chat rooms in a good while, but as I remember, IRC gives you all of the MUCK drama without the hassles of authentication and all. For real idiocy, try Furcadia... buncha Linkin Park cutters in butterfly wings sitting around in a yiff area talking about how happy they'll be when they're old enough to move out of their parents' house. |

That's probably not nearly as idiotic as the fact there are people paying exurbanite amounts of money just to be Gryphins, Pheonixes and Dragons, or have a few extra pixels strapped to their backs.
Furc I admit is somewhat fun (when I'm not doing something more meaningful), but I fail to see why people pay so much for add-ons to what is basicly a big graphic chat room. |

Furc's hardly interesting. Hundreds of 14 year old girls pretending to be edgy, and NightKrawler? Yeah, IRC is pretty drama-riffic, but you can get idiocy... for Chrissakes, this is the Internet. You can't swing a dead fox without slapping some tard. FM is where the established tards hang out. Where the rich and famous loiter and panhandle for attention.
Subversive: Nothing escapes the reach of the teleportation program, which renders all exploration useless and comparitively backwards. A handy 'whereare' program highlights the centers of drama and depravity. And the page program lets you reach out and insult someone from a world away.
Stoneth: You know it, baby. |
