1) Was this current DDoS started by the same guy, if not what is his IP?
2) Do you get refunded for bandwidth wasted by the computer genius who somehow managed to DDoS a server, what an accomplishment.
3) I'm on a different IP for this post because I'm not at my normal connection, and is by no means suspicious. :shock:

Someone/something flooded our MySQL server with connection attempts resulting in downtime. We're investigating who/what and will update with more details.

2) Sadly, no. I paid for a temporary bandwidth increase.

I deal with enough immature idiot DSL customers all day long in the corporate world never mind consumer. SBC to me is like McDonald's to a sous chef at a proper eatery.

Simply keep pressing the abuse department of his ISP and have your lawyer subpoena the identity and address and so forth. Have your lawyer file suit and press criminal charges. Do everything properly and in private. The imbecile in question will do doubt squirm and leak out who he/she/it is.

I don't do LARTs in person unless necessary. Then I don't allow or leave witnesses. Severity to be determined by whether I'm hungry and how bored I am. For long distance, sending them a doctored Ubuntu CD that wipes their hard drive after booting is always fun.

I'm actually surprised that it's taking them so long to track down an identified IP address and take action. They have to have some kind of organized listing of their client IPs.

On a possibly related note, I've noticed that cruel.com got nailed in a similar fashion recently as well. It might be more of a general case of "little punkass with no parental guidence wrecks websites. Soon to get a cluebat from the FBI" than the act of some militant fur(s) who don't like what CYD has to say.

I've said it before. I don't punch and kick fight. I swipe and bite and maim. Always have. Fortunately for many idiots, I've managed to convey that eventuality with a toothy glare and slight growl which all but the most dense understand to be a very bad sign that things will shortly not be pleasant.

LART is Luser Attitude Readjustment Tool, a phrase of support techs which I am and have been for years. I only recently got back to the desk ball and chain side of it and thankfully am no longer up ladder if I can help it.

LARTs range from encouraging customers to disconnect their own phone during a boring support call to causing them to reformat their own hard drive and reload Windows when a simple two second registry edit would have sufficed, or the more aggressive removal of network rights at random, loosening of cabling on their PCs which will take them three days to figure out. More violently, whatever you can get away with. Implication of pending violence is often more fun, especially if they wet themselves and suddenly grovel.

In the wake of the many worms which have taken down vast networks, the feds look more and more askance at hacker activities and Pac Bell can't afford to sit back and do nothing once charges are threatened or pressed, especially when your ISP is also rattling its sabers.

I'm really not surprised that some furries were stupid enough to try this. Their self-righteous crap is well known to everyone who's ever been around furs. It's the kind of thing we've come to expect and I won't be surprised to see more loons attempting to crash this place. It just illustrates their usual hypocrisy about free speech when they yet again attempt to censor their critics.
