Post subject: Yahoo! closes user-created chats |

From http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2005/06/24/yahoo_limits_chat_rooms_after_kids_targeted_for_sex/
After a TV report by KCPR stating how easy was for an adult to "solicit sexual encounters with children" on Yahoo! chats, Yahoo! decided to close user-created chatrooms on their service.
Apparently, the TV program was seen by some of the bigtime announcers on the service, like PepsiCo, and they immediately retired their ads from Y! chats.
Will this happen on the future to Y! groups, too? |

I noticed this a while back.
I guess pedophiles and racists will have to go back to irc, aol and MSN.
What they should have done was hire people to moderate chatrooms. (Or sort of skim around and close chatrooms that had suspicious things going on). So instead of adressing the problem, they've dumped it onto other chat programs and destroyed their user base. And since no one will use their chat program anymore, they're not going to be making as much money off of ads. Can you say 'stupid'? |

Stupid yes, but then if you had people moderating EVERY single chat room they might ask Yahoo to, I dunno, pay them as if it were a minimum wage job.
They lose money either way, however they would still have continued program use with the latter and recognition. |
