I was thinking about doing some research on furry music and writing an article about it. Any suggestions would be appreciated as would an "a-ok" from the administrator. I'll start out with http://www.vulpine.pp.se/fmf/

That should be interesting, tho it seems that fmf site is low traffic and not really used (I havent even visited it in a long time). Id think you'd wind up mostly talking about how almost all music that furries get involved in is techno shit , and how many of them are real into DDR...

I think theres a whole webiste devoted to it
www.ddrfurs.com or something similiar to that.

You could probably get into the fact that these people identified so strongly with furry fandom that to them its become a given and the need to create subcliques then forms.... tho thats pretty normal actually..

But it would make for an interesting part of the article, depending on what your whole angle is.

First couple results from a quick google search back up mouse's hypothesis.

There's also this guy, although I have no idea whether or not he's a furry. "Otters Everywhere" is actually pretty catchy.

Finally, this album , as I've mentioned elsewhere, pretty much sums up most furries.

I think it's the same thing that makes any music part of a "genre" these days:

1. It has lyrics somehow pertaining to the subject/genre
OR
2. It is made by people who identify themselves with that genre.

So a given instrumental piece, if made by a furry, would be considered "furry music". If that same piece of music had been made by, say, somebody who was "gothic", then it'd be considered goth music. XD

I have yet to find something really laugh-catching rather than a plethora of cheesy and spine-tinglingly revolting ballads. Also 2 the ranting whatever has made some rock/metal songs. The riffs are pretty good tho'

It's weird, but the fandom has at least five known bands, two of which are on tour.

I'm actually listening to Super Furry Animals - Rings Around the World as we speak.

I do not know of any actual furry bands. I have my doubts that I'd even want to.

Im not sure which bands creature is refering to offhand, tho I think I have an idea of one of them.

It depends on what you guys mean by "furry bands" ... theres quite a few regular bands that have a member or 2 that are furries.

In a recent thread elsewhere on CYD Mick Collins and the Dirt Bombs were brought up. The Dirt Bombs are on tour right now. Mick Collins is a furry, but I wouldnt call the band "furry"

I also believe one of the members of the progessive rock band Ozric Tentacles is a furry. He's got some gallery online..but I also don't believe the band is furry.

The hardcore band Shai-Halud are serious science fiction geeks, so im told. The band name comes from Dune. I dont think any of thier songs are about science fiction stuff tho.

Theres a Northwest surf/punk rock sort of group, Darkest of Hillside Thickets that has written most of thier music around the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Songs like "one-gilled girl" "Colour Me Green," Cthulhu Dreams, etc.

Or other examples would be (outside of fandom, just other interests of band members sort of stuff):

Punk/hardcore band Shelter are Hare Krishnas. And they actually have pretty weird shows (so Im told) cuz you'll have regular hardcore or punkrock kids there, and then Hare Krishna kids too who just kind of sit on the floor and watch the show.

Shelter is pretty wellknown and they are a good band, a lot of people like thier music even if they arn't Hare Krishnas.

Or, Cause for Alarm , thier lead singer is Krishna or involved in eastern sorts of religions , the rest of the band really wasnt. I believe that did cause some small problems over time but they were around '82-'99. He put some of that stuff into the music, but I wouldnt call them a Krishna band.

Any real "furry" band nowadays is going to be writing sappy shit songs about thier totem animals or dumb shit like that. Tho I suppose if someone formed a band and wrote funny kinds of songs (maybe, like the Vandals) about people in furry fandom or musical ZigZag/Sabrina slash.. that would be pretty damn hilarious right there. If furry fandom wasnt so full of itself Im sure you wouldv'e seen it years ago.

Just tossing another one on the pile, Cindy Crowell AKA Peggy Suicide, the bass player for the psychobilly band the Flametrick Subs has done a bunch of furry stuff, including a comic in Genus. After a quick googling, though, it appears that she's pretty much graduated to professional animator/sculpter/artist by now, and doesn't do furry stuff anymore.

Ah yes, I used to mention her quite often and I forgot. Her art was really cool - especially the content of her comics. Thats an area thats always severly lacking too. I think I've only seen her stuff in that big Rosales issue of Wildlifers

also...shes pretty hot, if i remember correctly :)

About the article, I noticed that Nothingkat has made one already. I was thinking that I should make a review of ten separate songs, particularly furry themed ones with images on each which describe the songs. Also composing a CYD theme song* as an addition (titled: Keep your hands off my pets, for example). I'd like to have some ideas for the ten songs to be reviewed, because I believe you're much better in digging up more horrible stuff than me. Also ideas for the theme song will be encouraged.

*I'll record that one in my home studio which I worked my ass off to pay last summer so the quality should at least be adequate. Also, it will be heavy, very heavy as it's what I do best and I 'm going to make the riffs with two bass tracks as which the other is distorted with a Marshall Jackhammed JH1.
